On 2 July Ohakune Junior Badminton players Donna and Cathy Cranston, Katrina Marsh, Sarah Lind, and Tania Shields attended the Wanganui Open competition. All the top players from Manawatu, Oroua, Wel-
lington and Waiarapa were present making it stiff competition. Cathy, Katrina, Tania and Sarah were eliminated in the plate round. Donna managed to make the finals in the girl's singles and doubles, losing the singles to team partner Marie Maniapoto. These two girls together had a convincing win in the ladies doubles finals, both taking home a good pocket of money for there winnings. The following weekend 9- 1 0 June the under 1 4 team consisting of Donna, Eileen Voon and Sarah travelled to Hastings for a invitation team event, wining all their games in their group. Beating Oroua 14/2, Hawkes Bay 16/0, and Poverty Bay 16/0. This qualified them a place in the finals against Bay of Plenty who were also unbeaten in their group. This turned out to be a very exciting match and both teams battled it out game for game. Wanganui needed the last game to win but were unlucky to lose it and went down 7/9. Bay of Plenty took home the Forster Cup, medals and certificates, but they had to work hard to get it. The next event is the Peter Quinn Tournament on 30-31 July in Wellington.
