Bridge repaired

After a lengthy delay the Ruapehu Road bridge near State Highway 49 in Ohakune recently opened, following major repairs. Work carried out included replacing the former wooden deck with precast prestressed concrete panels , sand blasting and painting the steel beams, and rebracing and mending the beams. The delay was caused due to inclement weather in May that meant contractors were unable to finish the painting of steel beams. Another bridge on the Ohakune-Raetihi Road, near Raetihi, has had exten-

sive concrete repair work carried out. Corrosion of the reinforcing had caused the concrete to crack. About half the work required is completed and the contractor, Ruapehu Construction Limited, is expected to complete most of the remaining work by the end of the month.
