Ohakune, the party town - but what about the locals?
Ohakune is a ski town and most locals welcome winter visitors and the boost they give to the town. But most locals have suffered at some time or other, the effects of inconsiderate people among those visitors. If you're on holiday it's great fun to party every night into the tiny hours, with the only worry being whether you've kept enough energy in reserve to shred the snow slopes with style the next day. But while you party, please keep in mind the people next door. Do they have to get up early and work the next day? Or do they have young children who need their sleep? Or do they just deserve a bit of consideration like you would jexpect at home? Most reasonable people can handle a bit of party noise once and a while until a reasonable hour. But please remember, the people next door don't need party noise night after night, and especially not through to almost dawn, as happens too frequently to some people here. If you believe in one of the philosophies like karma where you will cop what you dish out, you may be wise to consider that the person you are keeping awake at 4am could be responsible for your safety on the slopes during the day. Wouldn't you like to know he' s had a good night' s sleep and in top form? Sleepless in ski town
