New JP for Waiouru
Maori Warden Jane Jacobs, of Waiouru, is now a Justice of the Peace. Mrs Jacobs said her new position will allow her to be there for anyone who needs her help. "I have a lot to do with young people and the old people. Being a Maori Warden, I get involved with all sorts of groups. This is an extension of what I've always done." Mrs Jacobs has been in Waiouru since 1987 and is the supervisor for the typing pool in Waiouru military camp. "If s the longest I've stayed in one place. Waiouru is what you make of it, like any where else. It' s an excellent place to live because of the air and the wide open spaces," said Mrs Jacobs. She said the one down side was that some things are expensive in Waiouru. Mrs Jacobs is married to Jake Jacobs, an ex-military man, so she is no stranger to military life. "It' s been a damn good life. There may not be a job for everybody, but there is security." Mrs Jacobs said it is an honour to be a Justice of the Peace. "I will try to think good of everyone and try to be tolerant of people's failings...even my own."
