Memorial match for Waiouru Bobcats
A memorial game of league was played on Sunday between the Waiouru Bobcats and a team of Stanley Walker' s friends and relati ves. The game was a tribute to a strong league player and a fine person who is missed dearly. The game, although played under these circumstances, proved to be very entertaining. The teams played exceptionally well, keeping with the spirit of the game and the reason why they were there. The score was 54-8 to the Bobcats. Johnny Rogers, an ex-Bobcats player, travelled down from Auckland for Stanley' s unveilingon Saturday. Johnny felt this game was important and it was also an opportunity for him to wear the Bobcat's stripe once more. He opened the scoring with a converted try and went on to score another. Tries -were also forthcoming from Chris Hansen (1), - Wayne Tawhai (2) and Chris Vine. Mike Howell scored a converted try along with Chris V ine, with Shane Morrisey scoring two. Newcomer Gavin Jones scored a commendable three tries to bump up the score. For the memorial side the home tries came from Opae Steedman, who had a lot to do with organising the game, along with Colin McFarlane. Well done to both teams and many thanks to those who played, and thanks to the people who braved the cold to come along and support the teams.
