Fundraising by Waimarino sportswomen to Australia

Three Waimarino sportswomen will represent the region at the forthcoming Australian Masters competition, from 13-20 October. Enid Windle, Janet Scarrow and Ethne Carmichael are members of a Wanganui regional team bound for the Australasian event being held in Alice Springs. They and the 14 other members of the squad will come up against eight teams in a knock-out hockey tournament before competing in individual sports events for the remainder of the stay. Enid has registered for the 5km fun walk and polocrosse events; Ethne in pool singles and doubles, and Janet in running events. The three Waimarino representatives travel to Wanganui once weekly for competition. They and the rest of the team will take part in a series of build-up games, including a masters tournament in Wanganui in September that will include teams from around the region. As individuals they will be concentrating on building up fitness in the lead-up to the event, and further fundraising.
