Ski people: Whakapapa's marketeer
A new face at Whakapapa Ski Area is Ruapehu Alpine Lift's assistant marketing manager, Rachel Ward. Rachel, 24, began work on 5 April for her first season with Whakapapa. With a Batchelor of Commerce degree in marketing from Auckland University, Rachel is well suited for the position that invol ves the promotion of Whakapapa Ski Area on a nationwide and international scale. Closer to home the marketing assistant' s position involves coordinating on and off-mountain activities, including next week's Primo Taupo Winterfest to be held at Whakapapa; daily snow reports on all the region's radio stations, the formulation and distribution of brochures, appearances at this country 's Snow Shows, and dealing with media personnel. Her public relations expertise was put to the test at a recent Whakapapa presentation at the Skotel for 20 Australian travel agents. Rachel worked in Seville, Spain for six months as a guide in the New Zealand pavillion at the Universal Expo. She also worked in Korea for a three month contract, assisting with the promotion of NZ's trade and tourism. A keen skier, Rachel is optimistic that the demands of her position as marketing assistant will still leave some time to polish up her skiing.
