Ski fashion fun for cash for kids
Whether your idea of fashion is a co-ordinated look with matching colours right down to your sunglasses cord, or if you lean more towards the three-sizes-too-big, 'if it feels .good, borrow your grand-mother's and wear it' look, chances are you '11 see it on the ski slopes this season. Local skiwear retail outlets report a return of the earthy natural colours of last season - greens, browns, and of course, basic black to mix and match. Ladies' stirrup pants have also made a come-back, with two piece suits - or jackets and trou bought as separates - still more popular than the one piece suits on the market. The cost of an all-in-one is the probable reason for this trend. Unlined shell jackets for that 'layered' look are still a popular item, teamed with thermal skivvies and polar fleeces in this season' s vast range of colours that include neons. Technical clothing made from waterproof, windproof, breathable material and the cross-over range - suitable for both conventional skiing and snow boarding - are attracting a lot of interest, chiefly because of their practicality and versatility. Finish off the look with hats, headbands, gloves, sunglasses, back packs and bum bags, either matched or mismatched, depending on your indi vidual preference. Fashion parade success Around $2,000 was raised from the Ruapehu locals'
pre- winter Fashion Parade, to benefit the Ohakune Kindergarten. Over 200 people converged on the Hot Lava Nightclub at the Ohakune Junction to enjoy the night' s entertainment that included an on-going fashion show with fashions by Sam and Libby's, Junction Ski Shop, Jean'City and Waimarino Livestock. Models walked the stage to music provided by each 'fashion house' including a '70' s disco revival by Jean City. Highlanders fling One of the highlights of the evening, according to party-goers, was a performance by Taihape' s Highland Pipe Band, which had more than one patron performing an impromptu highland fling. Ohakune Kindergarten head teacher Yvonne Trigell, said she was very happy with the outcome of the evening and extended thanks to everyone who contributed to making the 1994 Fashion Parade such a resounding success. ; # P : H # f i M M
