Waimarino bulls feature at national sale

Four Waimarino bull breeders enjoyed huge saies successes at the recent New Zealand Beef Bull Sale Week, held in Palmerston North, 20-23 June. 'Aotearoa Hercule', from Alan and Irene Whale's Aotearoa Charolais stock took second prize in the Class A Senior bull division, before selling for $6,000 on the day. Ohakune breeder Cyril Wise's Charolais 'Tarere Hamish' took second placing in the Class B Junior division, then sold for $7,000 to a Gisborne breeder. For the Proude family of Ohakune, this year's sale was an emotional one as stock agents, breeders and buyers paid their respects to Matthew Proude who died earlier this year. with a two minute silence. Older brother Jamie represented Herrington's Simmentals at the sale and, with 'Wai-iti Loch Lomond' taking first in his class and selling for $17,000, took the third highest price in the auction. Another animal at auction from the Proude family' s

stock, 'Herrington Jim Beam', sold for $8,000. In the Hereford section, Raetihi breeder Pat O'Neill and Okahu Hereford champion 'Okahu Genetic' finished first in his class, as well as being judged the champion hereford of the show. Selling price: $26,000.
