Ngamatea School opts for status quo

Unfortunately the (national) media have latched hold of a piece of information concerning Ministry initiatives on EDI's (Education Development Initiatives) and reported these in less than absolutely accurate terms. Last week all schools with rolls less than 25 were sent an invitation to discuss EDI with the Ministry. What is EDI? An EDI is a plan, community driven, to propose merging with one or more other schools. In other words, an arrangement for schools to close in one area and for the pupils to go to other schools. The invitation pointed out that whilst the Ministry were offering the opportunity for the B oard to be fully

informed about EDI, it also recognised that "clearly the status quo is one of the options". In other words we can continue as we are at present. This Board immediately replied that we intend to maintain the status quo. The Board is providing this information in order to avert any misconception that there is any pressure at all on the school to discuss merging or closing.
