Pony club represented at national champs
The . Pony Club season has drawn to a close, the last event for two local riders being the NZPC Horse Trial Championships at Masterton in the May holidays. Amanda Garland and Sally Williams represented the King Country P.C. area for the first time, along with Chanelle and Stazirae Davey from Ongarue. The team, parents and management stayed at St Matthew's College in Masterton while the horses were accommodated on a nearby farm, all arriving in Masterton on Tuesday 10 May. Wednesday was a training day with team trainer Judy Simpson who coped extremely well with a leg in plaster from ankle to thigh. The teams introduction was held on Thursday followed by the official cross country course walk. Friday was the first day
of competition with dressage at the Solway Showgrounds, where the four team members competed in cold and wet conditions. Sally and Chanelle were both placed 8th i n their age divisions. The cross country and show jumping phases were held on Saturday at Tauherenikau Racecourse, Stazirae was the first member of the KC team to ride and unfortunately had a fall cross country and incurred faults in the show jumping. Sally and Rebellion took rails in the show jumping which relegated their good position after the dressage. Amanda ended the competition on her dressage score with two good clear jumping rounds, while Chanelle ended with an individual placing of 5 th overall in the A1 (17 & under 21yrs) section. The team performed exceptionally well ending the competition 14th overall,
and was the only team not to have a full contingent of six riders - in the overall placings the top four scores only count. Dressage In April, Kushla Edgarton and Sally Williams travelled to Gisborne representing the King Country area at the National Dressage Championships. Lisa Cochrane of Taumarunui was the 3rd junior rider while Chanelle and Stazirae Davey and Kerri Stratford from Kaitieki rode senior division. All members rode well in their championship test and Sally was placed 3rd in her non-championship test. The jumpathon held in conjunction with the Waimarino P.C. One Day Event was the local fundraising effort to assist the teams to the Championships and the Club is most grateful to sponsors for thei r support.
