Killing Clyde
& Unfortunately those who approve of the 'NoTurmngRighP from Goldfinch Street into Clyde Street have not thought of the businesses along Clyde Street that will deeply be affected by such a rnove. Retail relies on traffic flow and this will be a non-event after customers cannot park outside the store they intend to visit. This decision, if it is approved, will be in force all year round. But the bui!d-up of traffic really only occurs for the three weeks of the August holidays - not for 1 2 monthsof the year. Clyde Street offers ample parking, the toilets, park and play area and a host of shops that all will soon be forgotten if you are restricted entry. Confusion on Goldfinch Street after a busy day's skiing does happen - double parking, J walking, illegal parking in prohibited areas are all apparent and traffic pile-ups do happen. But congestion of traffic doesn't occurat the end of the street. It's happening right in the heart of Goldfinch Street where drivers act on spur of the moment decisions and momentarily stop to let the kids off... It is a temporary set-back for the poor driver behind - but nobody can persuade a driver to change these actions. But to cut the throats of the Clyde Street businesses is not a fair solution. We necd that flow of traffic. Suggestions and solutions are rampant. Everyone has an idea and I believe they should be researched and businesses of Ohakune consulted before the likes of Transit New Zealand and the Ruapehu District Council are asked to act.
