Nightclub reborn
Ohakune' s Hot Lava nighclub is to be rebom. Paul and Karina Beckett, who originally established the nightlub in an old movie theatre building at Ohakune Junction, have taken over the business after a year's break. They and friends have been working on extensive refurbishments to the building in time for the Queens Birthday start to the winter season. "We've had an encouraging response
from musicians from around the country," said Paul. He said bands they have spoken to include Supergroove, the Exponents, the Mutton Birds, Ted Clarke and The Urge. He said all are eager to come back, having enjoyed their visits here in the past. Promotional nights are also in their plans with such things as bouncy boxing (boxing with huge inflated boxing gloves inside an inflated - and bouncy - boxing rink) and soumo wrestling.
