Slip causes motorists concern

A small slip on Raetihi Ohura Road, near Raetihi, caused concern for motorists last week. A large block of papa was dislodged by the slip and attempts to dislodge the block using heavy machinery were unsuccessful. The area including the unstable block is now being excavated, with work expected to take up to a fortnight to be completed. The dislodged material is being used by a contractor as filling for a nearby culvert replacement and for minor alignment work. The Ruapehu District Council advises motorists to expect delays and take care when negotiating the slippery surfaces.
