Liquor seminar well attended
In excess of 40 people attended last week's liquor licensing seminar at the Summit Bar of the Ohakune Hotel. The seminar was a joint organisational effort by Good Health Wanganui, the Ruapehu District Council, Ohakune Police and the New Zealand Fire Service. Police spokesman Sergeant Bob Evans said he was very pleased with the turnout that included representati ves from Waiouru and National Park as well as the central Waimarino. Under age & intoxication The main aim of the seminar was to inform and educate managers of their responsibilities to patrons. Of particular concern to the Police are underage drinkers and intoxicated patrons. Sgt Evans said a lapse of enforcement of these areas in previous years has resulted in major problems on a'jiational scale. A scheme that becomes effective immediately sees Waimarino police taking a pro-active role in their policing of licensed premises which includes visiting premises more frequently. A further objective of the meeting was to implement a
liquor licensing liaison committee in the Southern Ruapehu area, comprising representatives of the licensed entrade, sporting and social clubs and organisations, and members of the regulatory bodies. The committee will act as a forum where any problems that arise can be addressed, as well as providing a communication network for local entrepreneurs.
