Waiouru runners in Fletcher marathon

The Fletcher Challenge Marathon was held in Rotorua the weekend before last with about 15 competitors from Waiouru taking on the 26-mile (42.2km) challenge. With over 5000 runners participating, the Waiouru team took six minutes just to reach the start line. The Bulletin was informed that all Waiouru competitors finished the marathon. . The marathon ladies trained mainly in the mornings (around 5.30am) six days a week. Some, like Karen Bulman, ran their first marathon, while others were running for the third time.

'Chook' Fowler,physical training instructor, organised a ladies group for last year's marathon and some

of those ladies returned this year. Judging by the enthusiasm coming from the group they'll be back.
