Hatchery highlight

Visiting the Turangi Trout Hatchery recently was the highlight of the week for 50 Ohakune Kindergarten pre-schoolers. Around 25 adults accompanied the group, both as part of the bus group and following in their own vehicles. The group had morning tea at the Turangi lookout before continuing on to the trout hatchery. The youngsters toured through the De-

partment of Conservation facility, looking at trout at various stages of growth and development, before finishing the tour on the banks of the central collection pond. An underwater viewing room proved popular, if somewhat crowded with all 50 children jostling for position. Dempsey's Buses delivered the party back to Ohakune mid-afternoon, after takingthe 'scenicroute' alongtheDesertRoad.
