League spirits high Waiouru played extremely well on Sunday against Wanganui United. The club's 7's, 9's and 1 l's played well in the spirit of the game. All teams showed just how much potential the League Club has in the future. . The 13's, 15's and under 17'splayed away in Wanganui with all junior teams playing a very high calibre of skill and sportsmanship. A number of junior club members travel from Raetihi, Ohakune and Taihape for practice and matches. The club's premiere team had a brilliant game, showing that they have the skill and knowledge by keeping up their winning form. Their 68-22 win proved this. Each team member shrove to perform at their own personal best, while at the same time working together as a highly disciplined team, driving forward against a strong United line. Waiouru kept up the pressure however, to break through the defence. The team managed to keep United at bay with a superb defence line. Players of the day were Wayne Tawhai and Maka McKinney . Both players shone through their quality of play. Wayne also contributed two tries. Other tries were made by Palmer Masters, Yanek Dudek, Chris Carter, Ini Meti, Lee-Jay McLean, Scott Leevay, Duane Fyfe and Raff Pereira. Kicking for the Premieres was Chris Carter, with an impressive 10 kicks. Steady scoring by Waimarino golfers Some steady scoring over the past two weeks has meant some keen competition at the Waimarino Golf Club. Some close matches have been played with some surprise results coming through. Golfers to hand performed well: Ross Brown with 41 points; Colin Allerby 40 points, Bryce Henry 43, Craig Dolman 40, and Graham Lind 40 points. The pennant team at Taihape on Sunday had another bad day results-wise, but competitors played some good golf, even if they did lose. Wayne Marsh had two wins; Trevor Frederick a half, and B. Drinkwater halved his match. Members are reminded that there is a working bee this coming Saturday starting at 8.30am, to prepare the course for the 72-hour tournament, followed by Basher's Day.
