Inaugural "Spring Ski Festival" at Turoa
Turoa and Ohakune are joining forces this ski season for the inagural Spring Ski Festival planned for 24 September - 2 October. Madness and mayhem for the whole family to enjoy is planned and you don't have to be a skier to join in the fun. The festival kicks off with the Mumm Champagne Celebrity Day where favourite celebrities are let loose on snow to show off what they are really made of.
The hell race of the year, the "Peak to Powderkeg" triathlon will run on Mon- - . day 26 September with a ski, run and bike down the mountain followed by a wejl-earned BBQ and beer at the Powderkeg. Don' t forget to check out the National Firefighters Ski Champs - well worth a look. Off the mountain, the action hots up with the Ohakune Junction Mardi Gras, a casino night at the Powderkeg and the King's Court Snow Ball. Also planned are mud wrestling, tug of wars, sumo wrestling, and an all-sing-ing all-dancing bierfest. For those who like to take things a little easier there's the Raetihi Country Fair Auction and market day, craft displays, the Spring Bulb show, wine tasting at Waimarino W ines all week and shopping specials at all Ohakune and Raetihi stores throughout the week. Events scheduled for the Festival so far include: & Saturday 24 September, Mumm Champagne Celebrity Day, Raetihi Country Fair Auction & Market Day. # Sunday 25 September, Mumm Champagne Ski Display, Spring Bulb Show. # Monday 26 Sept, Peak to Powderkeg, Fashion Parade.
