Ski work still sought after
Skifield jobs are as popular as ever, with Whakapapa and Turoa both reporting high numbers of applications for ski season employment. Ruapehu Alpine Lifts report that about 200 people have applied for work at Whakapapa as lift attendants, cafeteria and ski hire staff, ticket saies staff, car park and chain fitting attendants, ticket
checkers and ski field hosts. The standard of applicants for Whakapapa positions is much higher than in 1993, said New Zealand Employment Service advisor Maria Baker, who is screening applications. Interviews are to start this week. Turoa's general manager Angus Grimwade said that there had been about
500 enquiries about work on the skifield. They have now completed their interviews Mountain manager Grant McMaster said the calibre of applicants was very high and that as well as the people they employed, they had a short-list of about 30 people they would be happy to employ should later vacancies occur.
