Food tour on skis on the menu

"Where shall we eat today" is soon to be a common question on the slopes of Whakapapa, if Ruapehu Alpine Lifts food and beverage manager Mark Wignal has his way.

"I want people to say that, just like they say 'where shall we ski today?" He said he and his staff are working to lift the food quality and presentation to the interntational standard that people now expect. "New Zealanders as a whole have identified and now recognise new food and are saying 'if I can get

it in Queen Street, why can' t I get it on the mountain." He said they are creating different styles of food outlet at the different locations on the ski field. The West Ridge Cafe will have a game food cafe style; the Knoll Ridge is to be German sausage and pizza cafe; the Top of the Bruce restaurant will pro-

vide a bistro style service, and the Happy Valley cafe will be more family oriented with food that kids love. The Top o' The Bruce restaurant, Lorenze' s Bar & Cafe, is fully licensed and will stay open into the night, providing a social venue with live music for people including the 1 500 plus people who are usually staying in club lodges on the mountain.
