Ruapehu by-election

The Manawatu- Wanganui Regional Council has decided to hold a by-election to fill the Ruapehu District Council vacancy. The vacancy occurred due to the death of the Council' s Deputy Chairman, Mr Don Middleton, QSO, in early March. Chairperson, Don Linklater, said there had always been good representation from Ruapehu. "Holding a by-election gives constituents the chance to nominate people who

they feel will support local issues. It also ensures the representative has the support of the majority of the population." General Manager Reg Barrett has been appointed Supervising Returning Officer.
