Fashion on hold
Fashion will be on the cat walk this autumn in Ohakune, but fans will have to wait. The organisers of the annual Ohakune fashion show have deeided to postpone the event because of difficulties with finding a suitable venue. They told the Bulletin that they were offered the Kings Court at the Junction but that it proved to be unsuitable from a fund-raising point of view. The main aim of the fashion show is to raise money for charity, with the Ohakune Kindergarten chosen this year. With a huge amount of voluntary work going into organising, planning and rehearsing and catering the group is looking for a venue that can accommodate up to 400 people. - a total they have achieved for recent shows. They consider that to make it a viable fund-raising event, they need to aim for that number. The organisers looked at using the Crazy Horse nightclub premises, but it was not available. Ohakune Primary School's hall was looked at but because the block is currently being refurbished, this also was not available, they said. "A lot of work goes into organising the show and we want it to be a success, so we feel it's better to wait," said a spokesperson.
