TV folk get into army action

By

Monaghan

Lana Coc-Kroft and the film crew of Mountain Dew - On The Edge were in Waiouru on 1 1 - 12 April. Rob Hoult and Jim Masson, Army Adventure Training Centre, took the crew through their paces. AdventureS began with a 40 ft jump off the Rangipo prison bridge in to the chilly waters of the Tongariro River. From there it was downstream on tube rafts. Everyone who takes part in this particular activity designs the slinging together of the raft themselves, said Mr Masson. "You get some interesting designs," he said. Next on the agenda was filming the high ropes course in the Waiouru gymnasium. The course is around 10 metres off the gymnasium floor and is moreor less an aerial confidence course. Filming took six hours which will make about 14 minutes of screen time.

There were plans to bivouac on Mount Ruapehu. But miserable weather meant Lana and the team will be tackling that over Anzac weekend weather permitting. The Army Adventure training centre said they didn't plan anything spe-

cial for the filming. "We just took them through standard course stuff," "says Mr Masson. 'Standard course stuff include's activities designed to improve communication skills, character development and trust building, he said.
