Waimarino's rest home trust funds at $37,600

At a meeting held 6 April the Wanganui Rest Home Committee was advised by the treasurer, Bill Peach that the total funds to date amounted to $32,600 plus $5,000 from Trustbank making a total of $37,600.

This figure does not include the value of two sections which the trust owns. The bulk of this money has come from the Rest Home Shop in Raetihi, raffles, sausage sizzles, batonsup and market days.

The Ulysses Motorbikers returned to Raetihi in February and $360 was raised. This is the second time the Club have come to the area for fundraising for the Rest Home Funds and it looks as though

it will be a yearly event. Tshirts and badges are available at the Rest Home Shop or contact Faith Wise. An application was made earlier in the year for major funding from outside theareabutto datetheTrust

is still waiting for information on whether the applications were successful. Preliminary discussions have taken place regarding the possibility of the Rest Home building alongside the proposed new Health Centre with a view to sharing some facilities but at this time nothing further has been discussed. The Rest Home Committee wish to make it very clear once again that the proposed rest home is for

the whole of the Waimarino and notjust for Raetihi. The idea for a rest home came from several people who were concerned that under the new health system funding is no longer available for the care of the elderly in the local health centre. Elderly who have no family or whose family are unable to care for their loved ones have to be sent out of the Waimarino area. A section was donated for a peppercorn rental from

the church and this very generous offer was accepted by the then newly-formed Waimarino Rest Home Trust Committee. Preliminary plans have been drawn up to suit the section and anyone wishing to view these plans is free to get in touch with the committee. If a decision is made to combine with the new proposed health centre then it may be necessary to change the present site.
