Rail groups put their heads together for 'Turntable Special'
Taking time out from preparations for next month's vintage rail excursion are representatives from the two rail enthusiast groups, Main Trunk Rail Ohakune (MTRO) and Taumarunui Rail Action Committee ( Trac ), pictured at the Ohakune locomotive turntable. The excursion, which is to celebrate the re-opening ofthe turntable, will see two Ka steam locomotives visit the Ruapehu District, andrun a special double-headed train up the Raurimu Spiral. The trip willbe the first time since 1 966 thatsuch a doubleheader train has been seen on the Spiral, making it a unique experience. MTRO had planned to bring a third locomotive to the area for trips, but is now organising extra carriages for the double header. Tickets for seats on these carriages are on sale now.
