Pink pigs raise rest home cash

Three pink fluro pigs that were seen doing the rounds, carried by "three very suspect ladies", in Ohakune and Raetihi last week had their final outing at the Annual pig hunting weigh-in at Ohakune on Easter Monday. As it was not fair to weigh in the whole litter and the three minders, one pig and its lady got up on the stage along with the real pigs to be weighed in. This lady, complete with corsets, high-heeled shoes, gloves, fur-stole, jewellery, wigand hat was hooked up holding the pink pig and weighed in at 100kg taking the prize for the ugliest sow. * The $50 prize was donated jointly by the Waimarino Pig Hunting Club and . Winstones. Later in the evening the pigs were 'operated on' and a grand sum of $648 was

found inside, together with a $2 winning scratch ticket, bottle-top and American coins. With the addition of the $50 prize money, scratch ticket $2 and several other donations the total sum was $749.50. A generous donation of a collection piece from Elaine Goldfinch will be raffled which should bring another $200. This will bring the figure to $949.50 for the pigs fundraiser. When the 'Heartlands' television crew went to film at the Raetihi Cosmopolitan Club the three ladies were collecting at the time and Gary McCormick enquired from them if it was usual for the ladies to dress as they were. He was assured that it was not and was promptly asked for a donation, which he readily obliged with something for each pig.
