Scouts, cubs and keas combine for investiture

A massive effort by Ruapehu Scouts leaders saw a combined investiture of Keas, Cubs, Scouts and Venturers at Easter Weekend. The four sections combined at the Karioi Domain for the official ceremony, where the investiture of this area's first Kea pack since 1986 took place. Ruapehu Scout Master Grant Hays said that it was the first time that all four sections had new members being invested at the same time. Two Keas almost instantaneously progressed to Scouts, just minutes after receiving their Kea scarfs. The 'Coming Up' Ceremonies were witnessed by friends and family members, as well as fellow members from all four movements. A total of 13 Keas, eight Cubs, and one Venturer were invested. The formal investiture of leaders Karena Godfrey, Margaret Bennellick and Fred Lang was also part of the ceremony, An overnight camp at the Karioi Domain for the Scout troop ensued, with members taking part in aerial ropeways, compass reading, back woods cooking and bush lore. Mr Hays said the camp was a good chance for the younger members to participate in a camp-out situation with the older groups, although the overnight stay was limited to the senior sections.
