Telecom strike reaches Waimarino
Despite already being short in numbers, iocai Telecom workers tookpart in the nation-wide strike over threatened cuts in pay and conditions last week. They said they object to being asked to work longer hours for less money, especially when Telecom is posting huge profits. They told how local staff numbers had already been cut from 18 in Ohakune and 21 in
Taihape a few years ago, to the present six in Ohakune and three in Taihape. The strikers said they had received mostly positive comments from passers by, and only two hecklers "and only when the Bulletin camera came along".
