To ensure that the committee has enough money to feed and entertain everyone over the next summer canoeing season. While the Whanau's status has changed from being that of a protest group to being that of Kaitiaki, or Marae Guardian, pending resolution of the claim, regardless of the outcome, all New Zealanders and others will retain the right to enjoy the marae as their own and to stay as long as they desire.
