Tainui section consent given
Approval has been given to the resource consent application to subdivide a section adjacent to Ossie's Apartments in Tainui Street, Ohakune, by the Ruapehu District Council Hearings Committee. The resource consent was required because the proposed section was a noncomplying activity in the Residential B , zone. The section was smaller than that laid down in the rules for the zone. Conditions put with the consent included: providing easements for power and telephone cables; a shed on one lot too close to a boundary was to be demolished; the access way to the new Lot 1 was to be formed and surfaced; and all buildings on the new Lot 2 were to comply with the
relevant building code in relation to the new boundaries. A note was added which stated the consent did not imply the land-owner had consent to future development on the site of the motel complex. A number of people had objected on the grounds that they believed the subdivision was to allow for the expansion of the motel. The council has to give reasons for its decision, which included: □ The district plan had flexibility to provide for appropriate use of the land and the committee considered the subdivision would allow the objectives to be achieved. □ Concems of objectors were addressed with the note added to the resolution.
