Hearings commissioners

Hearings commissioners are to be appointed by the Ruapehu District Council to deliberate on Resource Management Act decisions which involve the council. 'The council has a credibility problem if it hears its own applications," explained chief executive Cliff Houston at the RDC's last meeting, "so we need a commissioner who can look at such matters impartially and come up with a decision." Rather than appoint a commissioner on an ad-hoc basis, he recommended that the council appoint commissioners who can be called on when needed, to deal with cases "where the Ruapehu District Council is the applicant or has a vested interest".
