Mini golf has local flavour
The Waimarino' s first 9-hole mini golf course, at the Ohakune Motor Camp, opened for business last Friday much to the delight of campers and locals alike Camp proprietor and golf course engineer Noel Shepherd is thrilled with the initial nine holes and intends to install a further nine to coincide with the 1995 ski season. Mr Shepherd said the initial response to the course has been "tremendous". The idea of a.mini-golf course came
from Ohakune businessman Ron Walkley, who had the distinction of putting the first ball on Friday (although rumour has it that Noel had been 'quality testing' the course earlier.) While there is still an amount of landscaping and gardening to be completed, the 9-hole course is open for business. Players can hire balls and clubs from the motor Turn to Page 2
Mini golf
FROMPAGE ONE camp office at a cost of $4 per adult and $2 per child. The fee entitles players to two rounds of mini-golf - a total of 18 holes. With such colourful names as 'The Carrot Patch', 'Raurimu Spiral' and 'Bridge to Nowhere', the course has a truly local flavour. One idea in the pipeline is to offer local
businesses and organisations the opportunity to sponsor holes, thus lending their names to the course. Another is a locals' trophy challenge to find the top Waimarino mini-golf team. Noel is currently working on installing flood lights at the course to enable night play. These will be operational by the ski season.
