Scouts' payday for council navvy work
It was pay day for the Scouts recently, when the Ruapehu District Council
coughed up the money owed to the Ohakune Scouts for work they had done since
November last year. The group asked the Council for work on nomi-
nated projects, for payment, rather than asking for a hand-out from the council.
They were raising money for the up-coming trip to the Scout Jamboree in California. Projects the Scouts took on included: Excavating and laying sub-soil drainage at the new Raetihi playground, then laying bark. Cleaning the Raetihi Swimming Baths main pool, then painting over repaired sections, plus cleaning the medium pool and then painting. Scrubbing down the Ohakune Swimming Baths changing sheds and ablution blocks, then painting. Painting part of the extemal buildings and pool seating; painting over repairs to man pool; and clearing vegetation from around the pool area. Supplied and put up 200 Christmas trees for Raetihi
and Ohakune; then remove the trees following the Christmas period. Council .area engineer south Don Sattler said the group suppluied their own resources for the projects and they supplied their own labour and equipment to cut, transport, install and remove the trees.
'The Ruapehu District Council is extremely appreciative of the Scout' s input towards these projects and looks forward to continued future participation with the Ohakune Scout Group," said Mr Sattler. He said the council wished them well for the trip to California.
