Waiouru's new midwife service started
Waiouru and Taihape' s new midwifery service started at the end of last month with three full-time midwives, Margaret McKinnon, Shirley Mitchell and Rae Johnson, working a roster. Margaret McKinnon is to be primarily responsible for Waiouru mothers-to-be. Good Health Wanganui says the scheme will provide hospital midwifery care, parentcraft and exercises and home visits for antenatal and postnatal needs. The midwives plan to meet mothers during doctor's clinics. Under the scheme the midwives are available 24 hours a day, says GHW, and they can be contacted at any time via the Taihape Rural Health Centre, 06-388 0570. Exercise classes continue at Ilam on Mondays and parentcraft classes continue at 7.30pm on Mondays at the Taihape Rural Health Centre. At Waiouru, antenatal, parentcraft andrelaxation classes are on Wednesday, 5pm-7pm at the Chaplain Centre.
