Old days
• As an old borough council worker of the late 70' s, I have seen drastic changes to these country towns of ours, from a love of nature, to the undermining of progress by the present district workers who travel from far and wide to tend to our towns of Raetihi and Ohakune at a cost to the ratepayers. Our town toilets were a must, for all travellers, in the late 70' s, clean inside and out. Cleaned at 7am and at 3pm, it was a joy to see bus-loads stopping along Jubilee Park to enjoy the break, well-kept lawns, and a round-walk over the bridge and along the bush-track via our motor camp, then back to Jubilee Park via the footpath from Moore Street to Jubilee Park. Sad to say that the mighty dollar has undermined the incentive to keep our towns welcome to visitors except in the ski season. There is an influx for three to four months. Where will it all end?
