Time to review
• The Ohakune Primary School Charter framework states that its goals 'will be achieved through a partnership between the school, its community and the Minister under the provisions of the Education Act'. The Ohakune Primary School Charter further states under Community Partnership Goals and Objectives the following: □ 'Goal': To enhance learning by establishing a partnership with the school' s community and to be responsive to its educational needs and wishes. □ 'Objectives': (A) Every year prepare and implement policy on how the Board will consult with the school' s community; (B) Each year state how and when the Board of Trustees will report to the School' s community. □ Goal B, Objective C: By the end of 1991 and once each year thereafter, evaluate and report to its community on the extent to which the policies have been successful .and to review and amend them and delete them accordingly. □ Reporting to the Community: The Board of Trustees will report regularly to its community on how well it has achieved the following: (A) Curriculum objectives, including New Zealand objectives and local school objectives; . (B) Community partnership objectives. I believe it is time the Ohakune Primary School honours the charter and acknowledges the partnership between the school and its community. With reference to the vertical grouping issue, I believe the time has come for: teachers, school management/BOT, pupils, parents/caregivers to evaluate the vertical structure against the stated goals and objectives I presume were written before vertical grouping was introduced. I believe that the parents need to view the goals, objectives and teacher evaluations in written form before they are given the opportunity to debate/ discuss the success of the vertical structure.
