Bowls credil at Rotorua Two teams of four players represented the Ohakune Womens Bowling Club at the recent rinks competition staged in Rotorua. The event was hosted by the B ay of Plenty Womens Bowling Club. The three days of competition attracted 1 82 teams, and players such as reknowned CommonIwealth Games bowler Millie Khan. Teams of four played a series of six games, need-
ing four wins to qualify for the finals. Both Ohakune teams were unlucky to qualify, although competed in a consolation round. To their distinction one team was placed fourth out of 42 teams. Audrey Nation (skip), June Foster (3), Rita Kaiwhare (2) and Betty Hammond (lead) won all their games and were placed fourth after a count-back. Ohakune women bowlers competed for the T ocker Trophy on Sunday at the club's Ohakune green,
Bridge Wednesday 9 March saw a total of 20 boards played over four tables. The north-south pairs had the better cards with several slam-bids and gamecalls available, although not everyone was willing to call the hands to their full potential. Ron Martin and Heather Cranston took top honours scoring 53.57%. Second place went to Gordon and Jenny Mottram who were promoted from fourth place with an adjusted score of 50.13%. The east-west competition was won by Glenda Whale and Elaine Gold-
finch who were promoted from second place with 58.45%, which meant relegation to second place for Ron Frew and Brian Eades who finished with a score of 55.12%. Ladies golf The Waimarino Golf Club's opening day was held in very pleasant conditions on 9 March. Twenty players co/npeted for the Captains T rophy which was won by A Barrett on a count-back from K Greenwood who was placed second. B Hibbard was placed third on a count-back from H Cranston. Handicap alterations are L Drinkwater 2119 and K Greenwood 1819. Waimarino darts A doubles evening was held on Wednesday 9 March. The winners were Neil Black and Lois Penning. Highest start of 120 was wonby Greg Windle. Highest score of 140 went to Neil B lack after a throw-off with Chris Windle. Highest finish of 92, was won by Chris Windle. Members are reminded they are playing the Waiouru RSA on Tuesday 15 March. For more details contact Greg or Lou. Bowls On Saturday 5 February the Raetihi Bowling Club held its monthly tournament. Eight teams partici-
pated in a triples contest,' with players coming from Taupo, Owhango, Waiouru and Ohakune. Diane Martin's team were the winners taking out all five games. Players in her team were Chris (2) from T aupo and Marty Lo ve (lead) from Waiouru. The runners-up team was from Taupo, winning four games. "The day was very enjoyable, with very even games and I was very happy to see the level of support from the other clubs", said Diane Martin, the president of the Raetihi Bowling Club. The club closing day tournament is being held on Easter Sunday this year and is being sponsored by McCarthy Transport, with a BBQ tea after the tournament. Ohakune Swimming Club The Ohakune S wimming Club has had a very good season with the weather and a good turn-out of children. A great improvement in the childrens' swimming has been noted by instructors and parents alike. The club marked its lasl day, Wednesday 9 March, with a fun evening starting at 6pm. Young and oldet swimmers alike (as well as parents) were invited. The club extends a big thank you to Harry Cast whc has put much time intc teaching and to all the others who have been on hanc to teach the children.
