Midwife service concerns
Sue Hine of the Central Regional Health Authority (CRHA) said she would take more concerns, about Waiouru and Taihape' s midwifery services expressed at a recent Taihape meeting, back to Wellington. The main points raised concerned safety and quality of the service, which are central to what the RHA must see provided, she said. The distances travelled and the hours that would be worked by the midwives were of concern to many of the approximately 150 people at the meeting. A review of the service was promised at an
earlier meeting and midwives would be documenting aspects of the service through that time. Lyn Oslthoon of the New Zealand Nursing Association said she believed four midwives would be best to serve the Taihape/Waiouru area, while under the new regime 3.4 midwife positions cover the area from 1 March. Yesterday it was reported that Waiouru's new resident midwife, Jacqueline Drew, had resigned after just four days on the job. She is reported as not wishing to comment on the reasons for her resignation.
