Water view

For some time now I've been sitting quietly watching, reading and listening to what is happening around the southern end of our district. Firstly I feel I must take to task the absolutely asinine suggestion put forward by Garrick Workman that Raetihi should invest in an ultra-violet water purification sys!em akin to Ohakune' s. His reasoning apparently is the one or two occasions a year that Raetihi residents might be recommended to boil their water when, for one reason or another the water is untreated. As far as I know Raetihi, unlike Ohakune, is not plagued by giardia and the current method of treatment has proved perfectly adequate up to this time. There are a number of users between the intake and reservoir who have had an historic agreement with the Ruapehu District Council and its predecessors to have access to the water in its untreated form at their own risk. Do tell, have they all been stricken by some dreaded lurgy recently that has necessitated this suggestion or is it simply to fulfil Mr Workman' s need to leave some tangible proof of his political existence after he is deposed? Whatever the reason, this is one ratepayer who is not prepared to carry yet another charge on an already over-burdened budget for anything less that a life or death situation. An expensive memorial Mr Workman. If you want it you pay for it.
