Minister praises two towns

Minister of Business Development and Associate Minister of Employment Roger Maxwell was in the area briefly recently to look at the business districts of Raetihi and Ohakune and to meet with people in the streets. He also handed over $30,000 from the Community Employment Group for the Waimarino Mainstreetproject, to community board chairman Colin Webb. Mr Maxwell said his department was happy to provide money for good ideas if they were well supportedby the communities. Hard graft and persistence of organisations such as Mainstreet was needed if any real progress was to be made, he said, and that he had seen elements of that plus progress in both communities. The Mainstreet group and the communities had had debate and would have more, he said, but what was necessary was an eagerness to work together.
