Railway Row residents concerned at carrot plans

Railway Row area residents met with the developer of the Ohakune Junction carrot shipping operation yesterday to try to overcome some of the difficulties residents have with the proposal. Local farmer Alf Alabaster is building a carrot sortihg shed on land in Railway Row in conjunction with Main Trunk Rail Ohakune. Residents are concerned about the possible noise the operation could generate as well as access for trucks to the site which is close to residential properties. More than 20 residents have signed a petition objecting to the proposal, which is to be pfesented to the council.
