Family Business expands into
mechanical repairs and tyre services
One of Ohakune's successful family businesses is expanding in a big way - Koi Young and Sons Limited. This week their new mechanical workshop and tyre services in Station Road opens. The family has been in the earthmoving business for 15 years, with staff in recent years employed to maintain the fleet of machinery needed to run the operation. But Koi Young found that they had quite a bit of untapped potential right among their staff. One of their number had several
years' experience in the tyre industry and another was about as qualified as you can get as a mechanic. Max Herewini joined Koi Young & Sons as a diesel mechanic to service the fleet of machinery, and Tony Tuhoro was worklng in the area for a Feilding tyre company. "The more we looked into it, the more we could see that each thing complements the other," said Koi. "We've got the capability to provide good mechanical services, plus a good tyre service, while continuing with our earthmoving contracting."
