In the past, wool handling events have been held but the show clashes with the Southern Shears. The junior and novice finals will be held from about 11.00pm, with the other finals running between 4.00 and 5.00pm. There is a $2 entry fee for spectators, payable at the grandstand, for this spectacular event. Among the many locals taking part, the ones to keep an eye on are Trevor Condon in the open section along with Jimmy Boy Edmunds, and Jackie Boy Pui in the seniors, who did very well in the juniors and is already taking j prizemoney in seniors events. : The Raetihi event follows hard on the heels of the Apiti Shears on Saturday and the Counties event on Friday, with competitors travelling between each.

Ron Jensen , who has stood down as Waimarino Shears president, said he wishes the new committee and all the sponsors well for this years' event. The new president is Jimmy Edmunds Jnr. Along with a long list of commercial sponsors, the Shears committee thanked the numerous individuals who donated money for the event.
