"See you at the Show!"

This weekend's Waimarino Agricultural and Pastoral Show is shaping up to be a fun event for all. The Ulysses Club of motorcycle riders is coming to Raetihi again, arriving in time to join the Grand Parade at 1.15pm. Also taking part in the parade will be a gathering of local dirt-bike riders, Pat O'Neill with his champion Hereford bull and of course all the horses and pets. Immediately after the Grand Parade there will be a lucky number drop, from a Wanganui Aero Works helicopter into the main arena. There's a dozen prizes to be won with the main prize a mystery weekend trip for two valued at $400. There are many other prizes as well. The prize draw will be made immediately afterwards as the showjumping continues. The Wanganui Aero Works helicopter will be at the grounds all day as part of a trade display. Horse and pony entries are looking good for the

day. Children are urged to bring their pet lambs and other pets for the Pet Parade - always a popular event - at 12.30pm. The Waimarino A&P Association held its first show in 1911. The showgrounds are owned by the association and a farming operation helps pay the rates and other expenses. Events over the years have changed a great deal, but the horse section remains as strong as ever, with many participants from the local area as well as from far and wide, who follow the shows around the country. Sheep classes are well supported by farmers who want to show off their best stock and the cattle section this year has two more beef classes included as a trial. With the great growing weather the Produce Shed looks likely to burst at the seams with the efforts of local gardeners and home makers, with flowers, vegetables, cooking, jams and other handcrafts.
