Cubs and Keas get a boost
When their previous cub leader Warren Swain left the district there were fears that the Ohakune Cub pack may have to go into recess. Following an extremely successful, and social, barbecue at the Scout Hall last Wednesday night, nothing could have been further from the mark. Not only will the cub pack continue with at least two new leaders, but a Kea Club will be started for boys and girls aged six to eight years of age, with two leaders stepping forward to run that as well. The whole emphasis of the Kea Section is for children to learn through fun, develop a sense of sharing and belonging, while becoming aware of their surroundings through exploration and nature. The
Club will be held at the Scout Hall in Lee Street on Wednesday afternoons from 3.304.30pm. "Being a parent-help will ensure that both you and your Kea grow together," said Scouts representative Grant Hays. The Cub Pack will continue on Wednesday evenings with the reduced time of 56.30pm. All the leaders are very keen to get the programmes up and running as soon as possible, said Mr Hays. The Scout Troop also did well out of the barbecue, adding several new scouts to their numbers. The committee wishes to express their appreciation for the support given to the group by the parents. For enquiries about any section ring Grant Hays 385-8297.
