Four school generations

Carrie Webb 5, has the distinction of being the fourth generation of the Thompson family to be educated at Ohakune Primary School. Carrie's great-grandmother Emily (nee Bayne) began her education at the Ohakune District High School in 1914, completing her education in 1926. Since then her son Bruce (1942), and grand-daughter Brenda (1968) have received their education there. The original Ohakune School began life at the site of the Ohakune Bowling Club, with another called 'Ohakune East' situated at the Junction. The schools combined in 1914, then in the early 1950's the Ohakune District High School became a separate identity ■ later to be renamed Ruapehu College.
