Sports funds available

Each year the Council asks for applications for the Hillary Commission Local Funding Scheme. The scheme is a partnership between the Hillary Commission and district councils. The Hillary Commission administers funding programmes to national organisations and local government. National programmes are run for people with disabilities, youth, women, Maori and older adults. Other initiatives include KiwiSport and Sportfit and New Zealand Outdoors. The Commission is funded by the New Zealand Lottery Grants Board and the Government. The Local Funding Scheme is the Commission' s major funding programme for sport, fitness and leisure organisations. The scheme is to support volunteer effort at the local community level. In the 1 993/94 year the commission will distribute a total of $1.45 per resident to councils to distribute either for general subsidy and loans on through the volunteer subsidy. Organisations can apply for funding if they meet the following criteria: □ They are a sport, fitness or physical leisure organisation. □ The project has a sport, fitness or physical leisure component. □ They are a non-profit-making organisation. □ They can contribute a significant part of the total cost of the project. □ They are able to account for the organisation' s funds. The Ruapehu District Council distributed application forms to sporting organisations in the community last week. If any organisation has not received one and would like to they should ring Kylie at the Council office. Applications close on Friday 29 April 1994. REAP are to hold a workshop to assist organisations

make well-prepared applications which will have a greater chance of receiving funding. This workshop is to be held on Thursday 3 March 1994 and further information can be obtained from REAP.
