Playground upgrade to be finished soon
Raetihi 's children's playground i s to have 10 new pieces of equipment installed in upgrading work which the Ruapehu District Council says will be completed by the end of this month. In a press statement chief executi ve Cliff Houston said the council has been concemed for some time about the state of playground equipment around the district. Funding was provided to have the council's playgrounds and equipment brought up to New Zealand Standards over the next two years, and Raetihi is first on the list.
He said where equipment cannot be easily fixed the equipment is being removed or rendered unusable before being replaced. This was the case with Raetihi where dangerous swings and a slide were removed. Mr Houston said the Raetihi work was to have been completed by the end of 1 993 but the equipment supplier was unable to deliver on time. As well as at least 1 0 new items complete with platforms, Raetihi's playground will have a 200mm layer of bark for impact Turn to Page 2

" A number of local companies and organisations have assisted in the project in providing goods or services in preparing the site ready to receive the equipment," said Mr Houston. "As a result more equipment was able to be provided from Council funding than would have been the case if the Council had funded the site development works." Ohakune's Jubilee Park equipment has been made safe and is expected to be upgraded by June 1994.
