Just over the Pihanga Saddle is teriffic Taupo

While visiting the Ruapehu region don't forget Taupo. Just over the Pihanga hi 11 you will see Lake Taupo laid out before you in all its glory. During the summer there are windsurfers and sail boats to hire. If sightseeing is all you have in mind there' s plenty to do in T aupo. Take a dri ve out to Wairakei power station and see the great geothermal steam pipes, on the way stop off at Huka Falls and see the great wa-

terfall plungi'ng down through the narrow cleft. Or visit the Historic Huka Village, reli ve those yesteryears. Huka Village does just that with its working village. Aratiatia rapidsare a must when the floodgates are opened. Taupo is known worldwide for its trout fishing, but if you don't want to fish Lake Taupo there are other . lakes just a short journey away. Lake Rotokawa, Rotoaira and Otamangakau also have great reputations for trout fishing.

For a meal without having to catch it, call into the Wairakei Prawn Farm which harnesses the warm geo-thermal waters to grow Malaysian prawns. How about a leap 150 feet into sheer thrill-satu-rated scenery with Taupo Bungy at Hell's Gate in Taupo. For a great family day out the A.C. Baths have plenty to offer with a picnic and barbecue area, take along your lunch. There are family concession passes for the giant water slide and

pool complex. Take a short walk in the Opepe reserve on the Taupo-Napier highway. The walk leads to the historical graves, or climb Mt Tauhara - access also found on the Taupo Napier highway. Shopping is a must when visiting Taupo. During the school holidays the shops are open seven days. There is no charge for parking and shopping is within walking distance.
